THAInk You...

Rice, rice, rice, this is the shout of many hungry Filipinos. Just like my previous blog about rice, I again saw a long line of rice buyers near our barangay hall. It’s really sad to think na while I’m enjoying my rice some people are really working hard and lining up to be able serve rice on their table.

During a crisis like this, the government needs to stand up. It needs to show the people that it can handle problems like this to gain the people’s trust. Well, I believe that the government is doing its best to look for a solution. Agencies concerned with this have been monitoring the sales of rice to make sure that no one would abuse the situation. Aside from this, the government has already talked with other countries to become our supplier. I recently read from an article that Thailand would be one of the countries that would be willing to supply us with the rice that we need. The transaction would be government to government to ensure that the price of the rice would be within the reach of common Filipinos.

Partnering with other countries is really helpful during times of distress. This is one thing that the government should maximize especially with its neighboring partners. Hay we really should THAInk Thailand for doing this partnership.

Giant learned from a dwarf...

China is a country with a long list of contributions to the world. Together with these contributions, is a colorful history. These are the things that made China very interesting. These things made China very popular to many people. Ang dami kasing mapag-uusapan tungol sa China. Actually, these are the things that make China pleasing to my eyes.

With all the studies and researches done about the Chinese culture and their influence, tingin nyo ba marami na kayong alam? I’m sure ang alam nyo ay yung Ming porcelain, Great Wall, Silk Road, and Terra Cotta warriors. But aside from those things, do have any idea na naka-influence din ang napakaliit nating bansa sa higanteng bansang ito? Hahahahaha, I really felt proud after reading the article about RP being the one to introduce tobacco to China. This just showed me that even though how small we are we have the capacity to influence.

In connection with what I realized after reading the article, naisip ko lang na my realization applies to life as well.

Happy and Violent ! 2 in 1??

Happy people that is what most foreigners would say after visiting and touring the Philippines, of course they would say this because we always welcome them with big smiles and warm hugs. But have you ever thought that our beloved country could be considered as one of the most violent countries in the world? Well, my fellow Filipinos for your information we are 27th in the list of most violent countries in the world. Imagine, at the back of our warm smiles lay the dark side of the Philippines.

Guys, na-shock ba kayo sa balita ko? Ako hindi na coz whenever I open the TV or listen to the radio news, I always see or hear how violent Filipinos are. I am not saying that all Filipinos are violent but we should admit it that we really have the tendency to be violent like other people.

But what I really can’t understand is if it is really necessary to resort to violence when we are fighting for our rights or the causes that we believe in. Can’t we just try to resolve issues peacefully? Ako kasi personally naniniwala na everything can be solved if we just try to understand one another. Oo minsan hindi tayo napapakinggan, hindi tayo napapansin pero that does not give us the right to be violent. Tingin ba ng mga tao violence will bring them any good?

Dati we’re considered as one of the happiest countries tapos ngayon nasan na tayo? We’re one of the most violent. Are we just doing that to cover up for the bad side of our country?

Family Feud

Family Feud is a game that unites families. It allows families to help one another in defeating another family who has joined the game show. However, it seems like this game will not apply to Senator Jamby Madrigal and her sister. Senator Jamby and her sister would not make a good team. You know why??? Well, it’s because they’re not in good terms right now. You know why they’re fighting??? Well, what can I say? They’re fighting over a huge chunk of money. How much money??? I really have no idea but it sure is big enough to cause a division between the Senator and her sister.

People say that money is the root of all evils but I don’t believe this because for me money is only a factor. The real root is found inside the person because she is the one who feels the greed and envy. If only people would realize that money is not everything, we would have a better society because no family would be broken because of it.

According to Sen. Madrigal, she is not fighting for her to have money. Para daw sa foundation ng Tita niya yon well if that’s the case good for her because she’s fighting for the rights of the poor to receive what should have been theirs. However, if she’s doing this fight to benefit her she should stop it right now. It’s not doing any good and she’s just destroying her relationship with her sister.

Secrets Underneath the Sea

During summer most people think of going to the beach. It’s very obvious why. Of, course people want to feel the cool water underneath their skin. The cool water comforts and refreshes people under the scorching sun. This is also what I love about the beach. However, aside from that I also love being one with nature. I especially love seeing different kinds of fish and other sea creatures. Just like me most of you go to the beach to enjoy, right? But have you ever thought that underneath the beauty of the ocean there lie ugly truths about us???

The seas here in the Philippines house many exotic kinds of fish and sea creatures. Many of the waters here are considered as one of those seas which contain the most diversified creatures on earth. However, underneath this beauty, as you go deeper into the ocean you will begin to discover that it hides secrets. It hides the ugliness of people. What am I trying to say??? What I am trying to say is that, the ocean hides our uncaring side. It hides the truth that people who admire the beauty of the ocean are sometimes the one causing its destruction. Isn’t this true??? Well, I believe it is true because whenever I am a the beach I see many people who after enjoying the relaxation that the ocean provides them, just leave without taking their trash away with them. I really find this weird because if we really admire the ocean and we want to continue enjoying its cool water, why are we causing its destruction? I really feel that people wshould start re-evaluating themselves.

With the ending summer vacation, I know that many of you have already enjoyed the beach. I just hope that you’re not one of the people who went to the beach to admire it at first and then slowly destroy it after having fun.

SUPERWOMEN!!!

Marie Curie, Mother Teresa, Condoleeza Rice, Cory Aquino, Lea Salonga….. do you see anything familiar??? Yes, they’re all women but despite that there is something that unites all these women. For me they are all SUPERWOMEN. They are the kind of women that I want to follow because thy have been successful in their own fields. They have shown the world the power of women. Despite the different trials that they have faced they stood up and claimed victory.

Having these women as role models is really inspiring. They show girls like me that there is nothing women can’t do. We can discover things, bring glad tidings to the poor, be political leaders and we can conquer the world through our talents. These women show that with sacrifice and determination we can be successful in our chosen fields.

Talking about these superwomen made me think of my big dream. Alam nyo ba kung ano yon??? Hehehe I also want to be known by man people. I want people to recognize my talents and works. I want to be a front cover of TIME Magazine. Wahahaha ang taas ng pangrap ko but seriously I really want to be recognized kahit dito lang sa Pilipanas. I want to be a woman that my family and the whole country could be proud of. Like these superwomen, I want to make a change. I want my name to be remembered by the future generations.

Hay, alam ko nakakalula ang dream ko. But hey, if they were able to do it why can’t I??? I think this should always be remembered by women you have big dreams like me.

Utang na naman!!!

Whaaaat???? Nangutang na naman ang Pilipinas!!!! Hay, since the time of Diosdado Macapagal, the country has been incurring debts. Did you know that in order for Diosdado Macapagal to borrow money from IMF he needed to push for the devaluation of our peso. Pero kung titingnan mo ngayon, did that do any good to our country??? Aside from that, being debt-dependent also became the policy of Marcos. He believed that through debt, the government would be able to support the industries here in the Philippines. However, that was not the case. It seemed that the debt was issued to support the extravagant lifestyle of the Marcoses.

Hay, honestly speaking, I don’t see how incurring debts help us. I can still see many poor people loitering in the streets. I can still see street children begging. Sometimes tuloy I can’t stop from thinking that may be many of our government officials are really not using the money to help the Philippines. I know that I should not be pessimistic but with all the poverty that I see around me, you can’t blame me and the other Filipinos from thinking this way.

With the loan that WB is granting us for the rehabilitation of Mindanao, I really hope that the Filipinos get a fair share of the money.

Our Poor Country...

Poverty has been the problem of our country for many years. The government has been implementing programs to fight poverty but it seems like the situation of the poor Filipinos just worsens. It looks like the programs are not really responding to the needs of the poor.

For 20 years I have been living near a squatter’s area, but I still don’t know the reason why many people there are poor. During my childhood days I remember going to that area to play hide and seek and my mom always scolded me at home because according to her “maraming addict at lasinggero sa taas, Kae. Gusto mo bang ma-kidnap?” I always see this whenever we have rummage sales in our garage kasi minsan kahit limang piso na lang yung pinagbebenta naming pinag-iisipan pa ng ibang tao kung bibilhin ba nila or hindi. There was even one time when a walis vendor dropped by our house during the sale and he saw that we had a rubber shoes for sale. It was only worth Php30 but he was really hesitant to buy it. Being exposed to these situations makes me think about what the government does to help these people. Whenever I see them I really feel how lucky I am to belong to a family that may not be rich but can survive everyday with some excess.

As a student, I may not be able to really help them rise from poverty but I can continue praying for the government to do its role in social development. Let’s just hope and pray that the day will come when no one has to live in poverty anymore.

LPG buses on the road

Heheheh siguro nag-iisip kayo noh??? LPG, hindi ba pang kusina lang yun??? I’m sure yan ang tanong nyo. Well, you’re wrong kasi pweded rin sa mga vehicles ang LPG. In fact, DENR has welcomed the plan of having LPG buses. This project might be implemented after 2 years. According to Atienza, this could lessen air pollution in Metro Manila dramatically.

There is already a plan and prototypes have been delivered to DENR, the remaining concern will be convincing bus operators to use LPG instead of other petroleum products. I believe that DENR’s plan will be of great help but it should also focus on how to implement the program because every program needs proper implementation to be effective. DENR should be able to convince operators to follow because the program will be useless if operators will not support it. It should make operators realize the importance of reducing pollution so that they will be more encouraged to support the program. At the same time people should also be encouraged to patronize LPG buses once they are available because when operators see that more people prefer environment friendly buses, they will be more motivated to use LPG.

DENR’s plan is another program that may bring great changes. I just hope that it gets implemented properly and most importantly I hope people will support it.

Ooops! Wrong Move!!!

Whaaaatttt the heck, have you read, seen or heard the news about a baby who was accidentally left by his parents in an airport in Canada? Grabe I just read it this morning at na-shock ako. Sa lahat naman ng malilimutan di ba? Yung anak pa nila. I really don’t understand these people. Are his parents that eager to leave that they did not even bother to check who the baby is with??? They should have checked whether they were complete before boarding. Yan tuloy, kailangan pa nilang mag-return flight to get the baby. Luckily talaga, a security guard saw the baby and not some bad guys. Laking iyak siguro nung parents kung nawala yung baby nila.

After reading this shocking article, I just realized that I am really lucky to be the daughter of my parents. My parents have their own flaws but I’m sure that they will never forget me anywhere. I know that my parents will always be checking on me and I’m lucky for that because it shows that they are really concerned for me. Anyways, I’m still thankful to have parents like them.

Power to the people

The price of oil has been continuously increasing. Every week we wake up with 50 cent or a peso increase. This phenomenon has been hurting us especially the people who use oil in their daily work. With the continuous increase, the transport sector has been demanding a fare hike from the government. However, the government really has no say to this because of the Deregulation Law. This law provides oil companies the power to dictate the price of oil. The oil companies have all the power while we become powerless because we have no choice but to pay the price that they set.

It’s really a bad thing that in our country the poor and common people are the ones left helpless while the rich people are the ones given the power. Should it be like this? Shouldn’t the government be protecting the common people against situations that put them in deep waters? With the rising oil prices, the government should try to rethink its purpose. This may be the time to improve the Deregulation Law so as to give more power to the common Filipinos.

Let’s be positive. I still believe that some people in the government still know their purpose. I believe that sooner or later these people will emerge and rise to fight for the good of all Filipinos.

It Strikes Again...

Last night while I was comfortably sitting inside the car I saw many people outside walking under the rain. I then realized that those people were looking for transportation. I remembered na may transport strike nga pala kahapon and it seemed to be successful. The EDSA road was flooded not with water but with people who were desperate to find a ride home. Some people were even going up the flyover just to look for jeepneys and buses. Imagine, some had kids with them but they had no choice but to walk because no ride was available.

I really don’t know if these transport groups understand the burden that they give to common Filipinos. I understand that they are fighting for proper transport fare. But what I don’t understand is why they do the strike at the expense of the common Filipinos. Sobrang nakakaawa yung mga tao kahapon kasi kailangan pa nilang maglakad just to find a ride. I really don’t know why the common Filipinos should be the one to suffer the consequences of the actions of the transport group. The government is their enemy so why cause burden to the innocent???

I believe that these groups should somehow weigh the effects of their actions. They should see to it that they only affect the enemy. They should not include the Filipinos who like them are struggling to earn money and make both ends meet. The drivers are not the only ones suffering. I really hope that the transport group would take the other Filipinos in consideration before they do another strike.

Our mothers' day celebration

Yesterday, my family and I celebrated the 2nd special day of my mom, my lola and my titas. Hehehe happy mothers’ day again to my mom, lola and titas. Yesterday was filled with love and laughter. We met up with our relatives in Greenbelt 5. Part of our activity for mothers’ day was to eat somewhere special. My grandparents decided to eat at TOOOOT, sorry I can’t say the name of the resto. It’s a fancy restaurant with good ambiance. The dishes were not Filipino or Chinese. Well, it was a new experience because the food was Mediterranean. I was not familiar with the dishes that they served so iwas pretty excited to taste them. We ordered fried frog legs and it was good not that delicious but it was acceptable. I loved the kuhol soup we ordered. After the appetizers, the main course arrived one by one. First they served Ostrich Salpicao and I found it delicious. However, the dishes that came after the Salpicao did not satisfy my taste buds. Most of the dishes were too salty and too exotic for m taste. Hehehehe while I was eating, I wished we just went to an eat all you can restaurant. At least makakapili pa ako di ba? Hay, I was really disappointed with the food.

Didn’t I say in my previous blog that the food really does not matter as long as I am with my loved ones? Mahirap pa lang sabihin yun noh? Because everytime I think of the resto I keep remembering the money we spent for it. Nanghihinayang lang talaga ako. Gusto nyo bang malaman kung magkano??? Hehehe secret ko nay un. But I’m still happy because I was with the important people in my life yesterday.

Ready to get wet....

The rainy season is coming. I heard Butchoy, the first tropical storm this year, has already entered the country. Looks like it’s time to say bye bye to summer and shout welcome Butchoy!!! Hahahaha but are you already prepared to get wet??? Looks like it’s time for me to give you some tips to get you prepared for the rainy season.

Tips this rainy season…

Always bring an umbrella (especially those who commute). It may not look sossy at all but I think a runny nose and a cough that sounds like a bark is also not sossy at all.

Drink lots of Vitamins especially Vitamin C because the rainy season brings many illnesses like cough, colds, fever, and dengue. Be sure that you are protected from these illnesses.

Wash your feet every time you walk through flooded streets.

Clean your kanals. Make sure that nothing clogs it to make sure that water will run smoothly.

Hehehe

Hay ang hirap talaga kapag umuulan noh. Tuloy pati ako tinotopak sa blog ko. Hehehehe but seriously, we really should be prepared for the rainy season. If you put much effort in preparing to have a fun summer, you should also make sure that you are prepared this rainy season.

Family 1st and Tummy 2nd

Hahahaha this Sunday will be the best Sunday ever because my grandparents are celebrating their 49th anniversary and at the same time it’s mothers’ day. Whooops wala munang diet saying ang pagkain hahahaha. Saan naman kaya kami kakain ngayon? Usually my grandparents choose Chinese restos. I don’t know why kasi 25% Chinese lang naman sila but they really love Chinese dishes. If I would be asked to choose this Sunday, I would suggest that we try a Filipino resto because I appreciate it more.

Actually I can eat anywhere kahit sa turo-turo or carinderia pa kami dalhin this Sunday. The food will not be the focus of that day. Yung food pamapadagdag saya lang. The focus that day will be my grandparents, my mom and my titas because that day is their day. It will be the day that their efforts in taking good care of us and loving us will be recognized. Kahit sa carinderia pa kami kumain it will be ok as long as we are together to celebrate that very special Sunday.

Hmmm, ang sarap ng Ice Cream

Hoo, it’s really hot outside. Even though summer is coming to its end at may paunti-unting ulan na, the power of the sun is still greatly felt. Sobrang sarap magbabad sa pool. But aside from that, it’s also refreshing to indulge the taste buds with a creamy and cold ice cream treat. But wait!!! Do you know how this cold treat came to existence? Hindi mo alam noh??? Hehehe this is your lucky day kasi sinipag ako na maghanap ng facts and trivia about ice cream. You might be thinking why the heck I did this. Well, hahaha I’m craving for ice cream. Hmmmm I can see my self enjoying a scoop of my favorite ice cream flavor. Heheheh nagugutom na tuloy ako…

Ice Cream Trivia:

  • Ice cream was first made available to the general public
for the first time at Café Procope, the first café in Paris.
  • 1899, five million gallons of ice cream were produced in the U.S.
  • 1920, Harry Burt Jr. of Ohio came up with the idea of
ice cream on a stick. He called it the Good Humor Bar.
Mr. Burt’s customers did not have to come to him. He used
specially decorated white cars to bring the treats right to customers.
  • The first frozen dessert is credited to Emperor Nero of Rome. It was a mixture of snow (which he sent his slaves into the mountains to retrieve) and nectar, fruit pulp and honey. Another theory is Marco Polo, 13th century bard and adventurer, brought with him to Europe from the Far East recipes for water ices....said to be used in Asia for thousands of years.

Goin' Bananas

When I arrived at work I immediately opened my laptop because I wanted to work as early as possible to make up for my absence yesterday. I was browsing through the net and VOILA!!! an article caught my attention. The article was entitled Boom time for Philippine banana plantations”. My interest was caught because I never thought that the Philippines has future in the banana business. I know that we export bananas but I did not know that bananas could be one of our major exported products.

The bright future of the banana business is seen as something positive by many people because it allows farmers to earn more because of the high demand. However engaging in this business requires big capital. The big capital requirement might be a discouraging factor but if I had the money I will invest in this field. Imagine, there is a wide market outside our country. If there is a market, go and get that market. Nothing will happen if I would just wait and not take any risks right? Hehehe

Buhos na Ulan!!!

The rainy season is coming and I feel like singing Regine Velasquez’s song “Tuwing Umuulan”. Lalalalaalala…

Minsan pa ulan bumuhos ka
Huwag nang tumigil pa
Hatid mo ma'y bagyo
Dalangin ito ng puso kong sumasamo

Hehehe you might be wondering why I sing this song. Well, the upcoming rainy season could mean lower electric bill and this is one of the prayers of most Filipinos. Wooohooo, the cold weather would certainly reduce the consumption of electricity to power air conditioners and electric fans and this means there would be less demand for electricity and this could lead to a decrease in power rates. The coming rainy season might be the only answer for the high electric bills we receive every month. But I hope the rainy season would only bring blessings and not disasters.

Let us respect what is SACRED...

I recently read from an article that the Church banned gays from dressing as female saints in processions and religious festivals. Well this should not sound strange because processions and religious festivals are sacred. These festivals portray the lives of the saints to whom we give our veneration.

I agree to what the Church did. To some gays this might appear like discrimination against them because they are not allowed to participate but I believe that it was the right thing to do because the Church is just trying to protect the sacredness of these processions and festivals. I have nothing against gays but I believe that as Catholics they should know that being homosexual is not encouraged by the Church because for the Church God only made man and woman. They should understand that as Catholics they have the obligation to keep the sacredness of the saints and the festivals. If they want to participate in the festivals they could do so but not as female saints because having them cross dress as females could cause the sacred image of the saints to be tarnished.

In addition, I don’t see cross dressing as something fit for any religious activity because it’s like disrespecting what God has given us. I see it as a way of rebelling towards God. Like what I said a while ago I am not against gays, I just believe that they should dress properly in front of God. They should realize that the Church is a sacred place that they should respect.

*** Wala akong pintatamaan. I respect gays and I even have gay friends.

The Domino Effect

I am really amazed on how some people are able to do the domino effect because it takes patience and determination to be able to successfully topple down lines of dominos. Aside from that, I am also amazed on their creativity because they are able to create figures with the used of dominos.

Watching the domino effect happen is really fun but the fun stops when the domino effect happens in the prices of commodities. This could be seen on how certain situations affect the prices commodities. A good example of this is the current upsurge in the prices of fish in the market which was caused by the rising oil prices. Fishing is dependent on oil because fishermen use fuel to make their boats run and to deliver fish to the market. Aside from this, the latest hog disease also affected the prices of meat. Prices of commodities today, continue to rise because of situations that are sometimes inevitable.

Hay, it looks like the domino effect in prices will never be prevented from happening. I think we all need the patience that we can have to be able to surpass this crisis in prices.

The Lying Virus!!!

LYING seems to be a disease that continually spreads in our society. More often than not we encounter people who tell lies. It does not only affect little children who are afraid of being scolded or teens who are afraid of being grounded. It also affects grown-ups as well because there are times that they want to protect their ego. Lying is not only a sickness of common people. The disease is so strong that it already invaded Malacañang as well. Imagine the place where the most powerful person in the country resides has been conquered already. It seems like this disease is really fatal and it has no cure. Oh, my poor Philippines!!!

Quotes on dishonesty…

He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual.- Thomas Jefferson

Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be sure there is one less rascal in the world. ~Thomas Carlyle

Those who think it is permissible to tell white lies soon grow color-blind. ~Austin O'Malley

Honesty is the rarest wealth anyone can possess, and yet all the honesty in the world ain't lawful tender for a loaf of bread. ~Josh Billings

The hardest tumble a man can make is to fall over his own bluff. ~Ambrose Bierce

We tell lies when we are afraid... afraid of what we don't know, afraid of what others will think, afraid of what will be found out about us. But every time we tell a lie, the thing that we fear grows stronger. ~Tad Williams

SIKAT!!!

Well, first of all, tingin ko easy money kasi kapag nsa showbiz ka. Aside from that, lumalaki rin ang social network mo pag SIKAT KA. Pwede mo ng maging kabesuhan si Dra. Vicky Belo or si Dra. Pie Calayan hehehe. Marami ring perks ang artista or singer kasi marami silang sponsor.

Yun nga lang hindi ganun kadali sumikat. You need to have the looks and talent para ma-appreciate ka ng mga tao. Who knows, ikaw nap ala ang SUSUNOD NA SUPERSTAR!!!
