I-SHUFFLE mo!!!

Ang ipod may shuffle, sa cellphone pwede rin i-shuffle ang music, ang baraha shinu-shuffle din pero maliban dyan pati mga tao sa gobyerno pwedeng i-SHUFFLE.

I read from an article that it’s shuffling time for cabinet members. If this is the case, I think President GMA should play her cards right because shuffling of cabinet members should be done to improve the system not just to eliminate people who have no use for her now. Pres. GMA should make sure that the people whom she would place in a certain positions are people of credibility because with the current problems of the country the president needs people who would make the Filipinos feel secured. The president needs to gain the confidence of the Filipinos again so her cabinet members should be able to do their jobs well. Aside from that, I hope the president would keep in mind that only deserving people should be given a position in her cabinet.

I really hope that the shuffling and revamp of cabinet members would be able to help the country rise from its current state.

LOve Quotes for the Day

Looking back, I have this to regret, too often when I loved, I did not say so.

If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, its yours forever. If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be.

"Take a look at what you have. Think of all you did to get it. Remember it only takes one second to lose."

"Once you find someone you really love try your hardest not to lose them, because you will never get over the feeling of loneliness."

Hehee I don't know what came over me pero puro love ang nasa utak ko. Is this a sign??? Hehehehe joke lang. Epekto ata ng background music ko.

Malls Amidst Poverty...

Malls can be seen everywhere. Bibihira na lang ata ang lugar na walang mall. But why do malls continue to rise in the Philippines despite the claims that most Filipinos experiencing poverty??? This was brought up by my dad while we were going to Trinoma one Sunday morning. According to him “Hay, grabe talaga noh, kahit naghihirap na ang Pilipinas marami pa rin mall ang tinatayo.” With that I told him, that maybe many of the Filipinos still have spare money to spend in the malls because mall owners will not build malls if there was no demand. Malulugi sila kung tayo lng sila ng tayo ng mall tapos ala namang pupunta. Aside from that I think people go to malls because it’s the easiest way to relieve stress because a person does not really need to spend to be amused. Window shopping is already amusing and you get to see different things in malls kaya minsan nalilimutan ang problema.

Pero nakakapagtaka pa rin talaga kasi ang dami nga talagang tao sa mga mall. Para bang galit sila sap era. Wala na ba silang mapaglagyan ng pera nila? Bakit hindi na lang nila gastusin sa iba?

Well what can I say? Maybe Filipinos are really fond of malls that’s why poverty does not prevent malls from rising. I just hope we learn to prioritize so that we won’t forget the important things we need to do.

Eureka!!!

Great discoveries and improvements invariably involve the cooperation of many minds. I may be given credit for having blazed the trail but when I look at the subsequent developments I feel the credit is due to others rather than to myself.
-Alexander Graham Bell

If I have ever made any valuable discoveries, it has been owing more to patient attention, than to any other talent.
-Isaac Newton

Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought.
-Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.
-Daniel J. Boorstin

It is a mortifying truth, and ought to teach the wisest of us humility, that many of the most valuable discoveries have been the result of chance, rather than of contemplation, and of accident, rather than of design.
-Charles Caleb Colton

Halamang Gamot na lang...

Oregano, pito-pito, banaba, bayabas, bawang, kalamansi at iba pa. Do you already have these medicinal plants in your backyard? You might be wondering why the heck I am asking this. Well, with the rising prices of medicines we should have alternatives in case one of our family members gets sick. We should always be ready. Sabi nga ng iba mas daig ng maagap ang masikap.

Hay but why are medicines very expensive here in the Philippines? According to my Competitive Strategy professor, medicines are expensive here because pharmaceutical companies still need to import the different chemicals and substances that they use in their products. Importing chemicals ad substances add cost to the product. Aside from that, the different marketing activities of these companies also add. But these two are not the most costly. Getting doctors to prescribe a certain brand is the most costly because they are the ones who directly influence the patients. So knowing this, pharma companies use all means to make doctors prescribe their products. They sometimes give them free samples or sometimes invite them to conferences free of charge. The expenses incurred by these companies in their marketing programs are then passed to the shoulders of consumers.

Hay poor us, looks like we really need to start planting medicinal plants in our backyard.

It Takes 2 to TANGO...

I really feel bad for our country. Problems keep coming. Kung tao siguro ang Pilipinas baka mabaliw na siya sa lahat ng problema niya. Imagine after the ZTE scandal, now a rice crisis faces the country. Are we, the Filipinos, really that bad that we keep encountering problems?

Hay I keep asking myself what the problem really is. I simply can’t see if the problem is the citizens, the style of government or the people running the government. Well what can we do to solve the problem of the country or reduce its problems?

If we really want to solve the problems, the citizens and the government should work hand in hand. Firstly, with regards to the corruption problem of the country, I believe that the government is not the only cause of this. I believe that the citizens contribute as well because some of us allow it to happen. Sometimes, we are even the ones who initiate the problem. This happens when a Filipinos bribe a government official or a government worker. If Filipinos would keep on doing this, the government officials and workers would always have in mind that they can always get easy money. This will become like an addiction and this will go on unless we stop doing it. This goes for the part of ordinary citizens.

For the government officials and workers, they should keep in mind that they were elected or placed in that work to serve us and not their pockets. They should keep in mind that we trusted them with our future. These officials and workers should keep in mind that there will be no corruption if they won’t accept the bribes given to them. This will be the first step that they need to take if they really want to eliminate corruption in the country. If these people will not accept bribes then no one will be encouraged to do it

A call for CHA CHA and reforms is being pushed by the government officials but can’t they see that no matter what reform they implement, as long as the mentality of the Filipinos is not changed, the problems of the country will not be solved?

I just hope that the Filipinos and the government can work hand in hand to help the country.

Know your priorities...

Children usually do not have any priorities. Usually, they just think of what they would want to eat, the toys that they would buy and the cartoons that they would watch. Hay, isn't it fun to be a child again??? Honestly, if I would be given a chance to be a child again I would grab that opportunity because being an adult is very tiring. People have higher expectations of me especially my parents. They always expect me to be a responsible sister to my siblings. Hay, it’s really tiring because aside from wanting me to be responsible they also expect me to perform well in school. They also usually scold me for not having any priorities. Well, I do have my priorities minsan lang hindi nila nakikita because they usually see me at home resting and watching videos. Hello, stressful kaya ang mag-aral. I also need to rest noh.

With my experience, I usually ask myself why my parents do this. I realized one answer after reading an article about
Aga Muhlach and his kids. Maybe like Aga my parents want me to concentrate on my studies and responsibilities at home before doing other things. They might just want me to have a brighter future. Aside from that maybe they are preparing me for the future responsibilities that I might face when I start to work. Maybe they still don’t see me capable of taking bigger responsibilities that’s why they are training me little by little. I know that they just want the best for me but I just hope that they would see that I know how to be responsible and I have my own priorities.

Let's be educated...

Education is an important part of our lives. But when I say education, I don’t only mean attending school and learning about Math, English or Filipino because education can be found outside the 4 walls of a classroom. A person can be educated in his/her home, work and surroundings. We can learn something in everything we do and I believe that can also be called education. Here are some quotes that might inspire you to continue learning.

Alvin Toffler:

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.

Arie de Gues:

Your ability to learn faster than your competition is your only sustainable competitive advantage.

Bill Beattie:

The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.

Ethel Barrymore:

You must learn day by day, year by year, to broaden your horizon. The more things you love, the more you are interested in, the more you enjoy, the more you are indignant about, the more you have left when anything happens.

Henry Steele Commager:

Change does not necessarily assure progress, but progress implacably requires change. Education is essential to change, for education creates both new wants and the ability to satisfy them.

Gym Crazy? Not Me...

Gym here, gym there, gym everywhere. Hehe I just observed that gyms have been sprouting everywhere. Being fit is really in nowadays. Most people allot some of their time to visit the gym. They go there to flush all the fats and toxins out of their bodies. I really admire these people because they are really able to spare some of their busy time to take good care of their bodies and health as well.

However, despite my admiration to these people I still find it hard to exercise because I do not like what I am doing. I also feel very tired everyday so I really dislike doing another stressful work after school. Studying is really stressful so why do I have to do another thing that would only add to the stress and tiredness that I am feeling. Ano ako superwoman? Hehehe na kayang pasanin ang mundo. Hindi noh. Ang sarap kayang magpahinga pagdating sa bahay hehehe. But then after I read an article with tips about exercise I started to think that maybe staying long hours in the gym is not the only way to be fit. It says there that the type of exercise that we should do must be something that we like. Well, I think that would be better because we won’t feel any pressure and stress when we like what we do di ba? Hay kung may pool lang kami kahit everyday pa ako mag-exercise ok lang sa akin. Basta ba nakababad ako sa tubig.

Happy Surfing....

The internet has been a very helpful technology to almost all people especially to students like me. Imagine, it allowed us to do our research in the comforts of our home. Now, there is no need for me to go to different libraries. Hehehe my parents always tell me and my siblings how fortunate we are because we already have the internet. They said during their time they needed to stay long hours in libraries for them to finish a research paper. Hay, thank God I was not born during that time. You might say that I’m so “maarte” pero you got to admit that we are really lucky to be born during the time of booming technological innovations.

However, I think we will be luckier if we get rewards after using the net. That will be fun because we are able to do our research and win at the same time. Wouldn’t you feel motivated if you know that you can win points every time you use your internet?

One Night with RJ Jimenez

“Every song for me is a miracle”- RJ Jimenez

My encounter with RJ Jimenez last Friday was really a memorable experience because that would be my first time to talk to a celebrity. Hay… I was really spell bounded when he sat in front of me because I never expected that he looks more handsome in person compared when I only get to see him in pictures. So let me tell you my experience that night.

Let’s start first on how I got to the venue. Hehehehe honestly I was not really familiar with the venue because I am not a party girl. Hahaha I don’t usually go out at night. But my friend and I still tried our best to go to the event. Hehehe we rode the MRT which was very crowded that time. But despite that, our eagerness to see the event surfaced. Hay finally after going through a crowded station and riding a taxi, we finally arrived.

So what happened when we arrived? Well we waited for sometime but I tell you it was worth it because the food was great and I also got to see RJ. But before, I got the chance to see RJ; he performed first to entice the crowd. He sang his version of “All My Life.” His voce was really relaxing and it was really different compared to other male singers who have low and big voices.

Now let’s go to the exciting part… the q&a. For the Q&A RJ went from table to table to entertain questions. When it was our table’s turn, I was a bit shocked because the only vacant chair was the one in front of me so I had no choice but to really face him. RJ was a very kind and jolly that night. He was so energetic despite the number of people who wanted to interview him. That night, RJ answered all the questions that we asked him. I learned that his idols are John Mayer and Jason Mraz. For the local artists, he idolizes Ogie Alcasid. I was impressed on how RJ answered our questions because he was calm and sincere, even though some of the questions were about him and Yeng. I was also amazed on how he comes up with his songs because according to him, they usually just pop out of his head. Aside from that, he also said that his inspiration is the Filipinos. All his songs are for us.

Hahahaha he is really amazing. I just hope he continues his dedication to contribute to OPM and his love for music.

Hay, I really felt Sebastian’s song in the Little Mermaid when I visited the Manila Ocean Park. I felt as if I was Ariel and the whole park was my home. There were different kinds of fish that I only got to see on TV before I visited the park. It was really a magical day for me. I especially loved the shark tank because I love sharks. I don’t know why but they just amaze me. I also enjoyed the fish spa because it made my feet feel more relaxed.

However, there was a bad side during my visit. The line was so long that we made 5 turns before entering the building. Aside from that the rooms were very crowded that you don’t get to see all the fish if you were as small as I (hehehe).

Despite all the lines and he crowded rooms, I still enjoyed it because it was m first time to visit such place. At some point my visit mad me wish that I was part of that world.

Love…love…love

Have you experienced falling? Falling from a tree, from your bed or even falling in love? Hahahaha, too mushy for you? Well, I haven’t experienced falling in love. Huhuhu charot…You might ask why all the poems in my multiply are about love. Let’s just say I can easily imagine an I can easily relate to the love stories of my friends and the stories I watch on TV.I have seen my friends fall in love. There are times that they look like full-bloomed flowers that are beautiful and fresh. However, there are also days when their beauty and freshness fades. This makes me wonder what love really does to people. I can’t understand why people feel happy and sad at the same time when they are in love. Well, since I can’t understand what love is and I cannot really comment anything about it. I’ll just leave you with some love quotes. Maybe you can understand love and then explain it to me later.

Amy Bloom:

Love at first sight is easy to understand; it's when two people have been looking at each other for a lifetime that it becomes a miracle.

Amy Tan:

I am like a falling star who has finally found her place next to another in a lovely constellation, where we will sparkle in the heavens forever.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery:

Love does not consist of gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.

Bible:

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
I Corinthians 13:4-8

Peace, my friends...

Violence can never resolve anything because violence only results to casualties. However, this seems to be ignored by the military and the Muslim groups in Mindanao as well. I know that both are just trying to protect their interests and what they think is good. But can’t they do it peacefully? Why do they have to use guns? I don’t get the point of trying to kill each other. Aside from that there are times that innocent people are accidentally killed because of them.

I believe violence will not help solve the problems in Mindanao. This should be seen by the government and the Muslims as well. For peace to flourish, both parties need to talk to each other so that they would be able to listen to each others’ views and opinions. This would allow them to really know and understand the problems of the other party. I hope the conflict in Mindanao would be settled so that we could live peacefully as one country.

Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict -- alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence”- Dorothy Thompson

Rainbow Salad

R- Red tomato

O- Orange carrot

Y- Yellow Mango

G- Green lettuce

B- Black Olives

I-I don’t know any salad ingredient whose color starts with I.

V- Violet grapes

Hehehe this is the usual color of my salad. It has all the colors of the rainbow except for blue and indigo. Well I haven’t encountered a salad with color blue or indigo in it. When I was smaller I just ate the lettuce in my salad. My mom was the one who taught me to make my salad colorful. Usually when she has time she prepares salad on weekends and she partners it with either fish fillet or pasta. I love the fish fillet and salad combo because I am able to eat plenty but still stay healthy. Hehehehe pasta and salad is also a good combo because it really fills my stomach. Kaya, for those who want to eat plenty but still want to be healthy try making salad as your main course….

A Delightful Morning

“ Know why God blessed you another morning to wake up? It’s to forget the pains of yesterday and see the chance the new day has brought, to dance and laugh again, to make up for the wrong things you’ve done, to see your friends, to love again and to make others feel loved and happy. You see, it’s more than just another long day ahead. It’s God’s way of reminding you that He cares and loves everyone of us.”- text from a friend

What this message tells is very true because every waking moment is a chance for us to renew ourselves. It’s another chance for us to show everybody our love and appreciation because who knows there might not be another chance for us to show the people our love how much you love them.

Aside from being a chance to change and show love. Every time you wake up is also another chance for you to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee (Yehey!) that will energize you and keep you on the go for the day.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!!!!

Quotes on Stress and Relaxation

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow. -Douglas Pagels, These Are the Gifts I'd Like to Give to You

Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can't hear, and not bothering. -Pooh's Little Instruction Book, inspired by A.A. Milne

Don't let your mind bully your body into believing it must carry the burden of its worries. -Astrid Alauda

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. - J. Lubbock

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths. -Etty Hillesum

Keep your sense of humour. There's enough stress in the rest of your life to let bad shots ruin a game you're supposed to enjoy. -Louisa May Alcott

"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin."- Mother Teresa

"Have a variety of interests...These interests relax the mind and lessen tension on the nervous system. People with many interests live, not only longest, but happiest."-George Matthew Allen

The happiest people I know are the ones who have learned how to hold everything loosely and have given the worrisome, stress-filled, fearful details of their lives into God's keeping." -Charles R. Swindoll

Vacation Tips...

What do you usually do during summer??? Go to the beach? Travel? Well, whatever you plan to do or whatever you are doing this summer, be sure that you are well prepared for all your activities. But how do you prepare?

First, know the place and the weather. Knowing the place you would go to would help you decide on the things that you should bring in your trip. Remember that you should pack only the things that are suitable to the place.

Second, know the number of days that you would spend. This would help you in packing because this would allow you to know the number of shirts, pants, and underwear that you should bring. Hehehe I bet you don’t want to do side A and side B. Hahahaha

Third, make a list of all the things that you should bring (Yehey!). Having a checklist would save some memory space in your head. This would also prevent you from always trying to remember if you forgot anything.

Fourth, make a list of the places that you would want to visit in your trip. Also make an itinerary of your activities. This would allow you to budget your time.

There you go. You are now prepared to have fun under the sun. You can even have fun under any weather.

Tagaytay, here we go!!!

Wow, it’s really hot in here, so take off all your clothes!!! Hahahaha joke. Hay the scorching sun really makes me sweat. I feel like I’m being roasted. Do you feel the same? Hay how can we solve this problem? Well, a trip to the beach would be very refreshing. If you have your own pool, well that’s sweet because you can always plunge into it. You can also go to Baguio and enjoy the cold weather there. You can visit Burnham Park or Camp John Hay. Hay, that will be really great but Baguio is far. The travel would be very tiring. Aha, why don’t you go to Tagaytay instead? The temp there may not be as cold as Baguio’s but it surely is not as hot as Manila’s. This would save you hours of travel but you get almost the same feeling. If you would visit Tagaytay for the first time or you’re not that familiar with the places there just visit http://www.yehey.com/travel/articles.aspx?id=209269 .

Wag kasing Chismosa

Hay, bakit ba kasi nagkaroon ng mga chismosa sa mundo? Hindi na ba talaga pwedeng magkaroon ng privacy ang mga tao lalo na ang mga artista? Why do we have to meddle with other people’s lives when we cannot even handle our own lives? Can’t we respect that these people are persons who should be respected and that they have the right for their privacy? I know that artists have chosen the public life but I believe the reporters and journalists should also know their limits. They cannot just report about something just for the sake of having a scoop. They should also check whether their reports can ruin an artist’s name.

Ewan ko ba talaga, itong mga reporter na ito kung magreport akala mo sila walang ginagawang mali taposkapag sila ang nakasuhan ng libel dinedeny nila yung mga ginawa nila. What is the problem of these reporters? If they don’t want to be sued, they better recheck what they are reporting to the public. Tulad ni Lolit Solis, she kept saying that what she wrote about Sam and Piolo was an honest mistake. She even said sorry. But the thing is, this could have been prevented if she were more careful with her words.

Yan talaga ang problema kapag chismosa eh.

  • Beauty pleases the eyes only; Sweetness of disposition charms the soul- Voltaire (1694-1778)

  • It's beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.- Anonymous

  • Beauty isn't worth thinking about; what's important is your mind. You don't want a fifty-dollar haircut on a fifty-cent head. -Garrison Keillor

Wahahaha...

People usually see me as serious and masungit. I don’t know why but that’s what they usually tell me when I ask them about their first impression of me. But actually, when they get to know me I am able to prove them wrong because I’m a very wacky person. If you ask my classmates, they can tell you how wacky I am. Hehehe I even find time to read jokes. Does that sound like someone serious? Here let me share a joke to you go to http://www.yehey.com/entertainment/FunnyPages/article.aspx?id=155757. Hahahaha baka mabaliw rin kayo sa kakatawa.

One Week Lang!!!

Summer is the time for students to go to the beach or go anywhere for a vacation. But what if you’re only given a 1 week vacation before your summer class starts? How will you make that week worthwhile?

Here are some tips…

  • Do general cleaning, you will not only do your mom or house help a favor but you will be able to prevent roaches from entering your room as well.
  • Have a garage sale. Sell the useful stuff that you have collected during your general cleaning. Imagine, your room is already clean and at the same time you earn money.
  • Hang out at a friend’s house. There’s nothing more fun than chatting with your friends.

Rising After Losing a Battle

What do you usually do when you lose? I see many people cry, shout, complain and sometimes they even compare themselves to the winner. These are all natural because losing is not a small thing. It causes some people to feel unimportant, low and small. It also makes them blind because they usually miss to see that there is always a rainbow after the rain, tulad ng sabi sa isang kanta. At tulad rin ng sabi ng mga nakatatanda habang may buhay may pag-asa.

I think this was what Charice Pempengco believed in because after losing to Sam Concepcion in one of the contests in ABS-CBN she did not stop from pursuing her dream. She proved to the people that there can still be victory after losing a battle.

Greener pasture or darker future?

The Philippines is currently struggling. Many storms have hit the country. I am not referring to storms that bring hard rain and wind. I am talking about the issues that shook the whole nation.

Together, with the country, The Filipinos also struggle to provide food for their families. Filipinos see working abroad as a way to find a greener pasture for their families. This is the reason why many Filipinos choose to leave the country and be separated from their loved ones. They go there with the hope that they would be ale to provide for their families’ needs. However, sometimes they just end up with a darker future for them and their families. They sometimes end up dead or waiting for the sentence of their crime.

It is really sad to bid your loved ones goodbye. But it is saddest to welcome a family member, who was once full of hope, enclosed in a wooden box.

Alone by Marya Klara

Alone and waiting,

You hear your heart beating.

You are still there standing,

Waiting for someone who is not coming.

You have stood for too long

But now, you’re still alone.

Don’t you think that it’s wrong

To wait for someone who’s already gone?

Why don’t you stop?

You’re just hurting your heart.

Why don’t you just look for someone

Who is willing to be by your side?

Kainan na!!!

I love going to different places in the Philippines. Hehehe, actually I have only been in a few places (Bohol, Cebu, Bacolod, Baguio, Subic, Clark, Puerto Galera and Boracay). Traveling makes me know more about the Philippines and its people. Hehehe I especially like to travel because of the different local cuisines that I get to taste. Hahaha I feel heavenly whenever my family and I go to a famous local restaurant. I just read an article from Yehey! about the ginulay na lubi-lubi of Bicol. It made me want to grab my parents from work and force them to go to Bicol.

High Rice Tariff: A Burden?

I recently read from Yehey! that a kilo of rice might be sold for Php50 for the days to come. It was said that the 50% tariff rate on rice would be the cause.

Do you know why there are tariffs on imported goods? Tariffs are used to protect the local industries. These are barriers that regulate the entry of imported goods. This is also done to make the locally produced goods competitive. However, sometimes these tariffs become a burden especially if the high tariffs are posted on commodities like rice. When commodities like rice have high tariffs this means that they would be sold at a higher price. This makes it harder for most Filipinos to purchase these goods. With the current rice crisis in the country, government is able to help the local traders. However, this seems to be at the expense of the consumers.

Note: I’m not really an expert in economics, hehehe I’m a management student so please bear with me. I just wrote what I know and feel. Thanks(^_^)

Giant!!!

Have you ever felt like you were so small? As for me being small is not something new because I have been small all my life. Since preschool, I have been one of the girls who were first in line. But I have never felt as small as this man.

The Blogging Phenomenon

I just recently created my own blog. Hehehe thanks to being an intern in Yehey! Honestly, I did not know that blogging could be fun. It allowed me to have my own page where i could write all my feeling s and thoughts. Aside from that, I learned from an article in Yehey! that blogging has emerged as a tool for ranting about the political situation in our country.

Practical Nurses: Let's Give It A Try

When I was still in high school I heard many of my friends say that they wanted to take up nursing. I asked them why and I got the same answer from all of them. They all wanted to work abroad. Nobody answered they wanted to serve their countrymen. Huh! You might laugh at me because I was still expecting that somebody would this answer. But if I were to be a nurse I would like to serve here in the Philippines because I feel that it’s everyone’s duty to serve his or her country. This might sound too patriotic but I really believe in this.

You might be wondering why I wrote this. Well first, I just received a message from my friend (a nursing student) that she just graduated. Second, I read this article from Yehey! about practical nurses. According to the article CHED is pushing for the practical nurse course because this will solve the problem of lack of nurses in Barrios and poor communities. I believe this is something good because there is really a need for nurses who are willing to work in poor communities. If all the nurses trained through higher education would leave the country, who will be left to take care of the sick Filipinos?

The Slim Addiction: Where is the problem?

While I was reading a Yehey! article it came to my mind that many women nowadays are going through excessive dieting and exercising to lose all the fats that they could. Honestly, I was one of them. Hehehe I’ll just share one story to you. Last 2005, it was my big year. I was turning 18 and my mother prepared a debut for me. Yep, with all the gown and the balloons. Wow, that was a dream come true for me because I always wanted to feel like a princess. I was really excited that year however; I had one problem I was really fat (well I am still fat). This was a dilemma for me and my mom because I wanted to look good on my gown. This started the dieting galore that I tried. I did the three day diet but it did not work that much. So, my mom said that she was willing to spend just to see more results. Yep, we did it. She enrolled me in a south beach diet and it cost us ???? (secret). The diet did give results. I lost 5-8 lbs in two weeks. Hehehe that’s already a big difference for me. Unfortunately, I was not able to maintain it and now I’m back to my fatness. Hehehe

With this, experience I ask myself where really is the problem. Is it in the person because she is fat or is it in the kind of society that the person is in? If I were to answer this, I would say both. First of all, the problem is in the person because she is the one who allows people to influence her thinking. In a society, there will always be different views and opinion and it is up to the person whether she will let this society dictate who she should be. It is only she who can decide whether to follow the perception of the members of the society.

On the other hand, I believe the problem is also in the society because the kind of society that we are in is discriminating. Many people now laugh at women who are chubby and fat. These women are also the usual butt of everyone’s jokes. I, myself is a witness to that because during my elementary days all the boys in my class kept calling me “lechon” and “batchoy”.

With these instances experienced by fat women, can you blame them if they wished to be slim?
